Unbelievable...really...I can't believe that it is already here. Didn't we just leave the hospital? Is it really time for the first birthday? You've got to be kidding me....
Cohen's first birthday was Thursday, December 6th. Mommy and Daddy both had to work but he spent the day with Grandma Miller and that's just about as good as mommy and daddy, if not better. Then we came home and had a great birthday night. Cohen got his present from mommy and daddy Thursday, his busy ball popper and his Steelers outfit (hanging to the left), but he was awfully tired and so this half smile was about the best that we could get. But he really does like the ball popper though, really! And it's pretty good for daddy's hand-eye coordination as well.
Okay, this picture of me is pretty awful (why does my head look so big? is my head really that big?) but Cohen is just so darn cute, I couldn't resist sharing. Is this that selfless motherhood thing they talk about? Posting pictures of yourself that you would normally have destroyed just because your kid is so cute? Oh well, either way, a picture of the two of us during the festivities.
Cohen's giant pile of presents. Huge, really. And yes, they are under the Christmas tree. Because when your birthday is Dec. 6th and your house is PACKED full of people, where else do you put the birthday presents? Sorry Cohen, due to the poor planning of your parents (and by that, I mean no planning) you, as well, are forever cursed with the December birthday. Sorry buddy, there is little that I can do at this point.
Cohen and Mommy opening presents. Well, to be honest, mommy opening presents, Cohen handing those presents to daddy to untape/cut open/untwist/crack into/turn on, and then daddy giving those presents back to Cohen to play with for a split second before the process began again with a new gift.
Cohen's cake...no further description necessary.
Cohen's traditional one-finger check-out of any new food. Anything new must be poked and prodded and pushed around until he deems it worthy of eating....
....but after awhile he finally got into it.
My camera isn't very fast but I was trying to get a picture of Cohen's frosting covered hands right on top of his head, smearing frosting all over his clean head of hair. But since my camera is a little slow, I have a cute picture of him, with frosting in his hair looking pleased!
Well, we had the traditional playing-in-cake pictures and so we have to also have the traditional covered-in-cake-and-completely-unhappy-about-it picture. Don't worry, after a quick bath and a bottle, he was all calmed down and ready to party again.
Why do we even buy presents? All he wanted to do was play on the boxes and play with his balloons. Eventually I'm sure he will play with all his new toys, however right now, the trash and deflating balloons are way more fun!

Cohen's First Birthday

McBride Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving 2007!
We had this year's McBride Thanksgiving at Willis' nursing home where we celebrated both his birthday and the Thanksgiving holiday. Cohen was in a great mood- luckily most holiday meals fit right in between his nap schedule and include a long car ride either way in which to take said nap. Therefore, we tend to get rather lucky. (if you look closely at the above picture, you can almost see all 5 teeth: three on the bottom and his top two front teeth)
Cohen's first pumpkin pie. Cohen had been eating some solid foods before this point but this Thanksgiving meal was probably the first meal in which he ate no baby food at all and only shared mommy's meal. He did a great job. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry jello, rolls and then pumpkin pie. I don't think I need to be worried that he didn't get enough to eat- he may have eaten more than I did!
Cohen really likes wheels. His toy car wheels, toy tractor wheels, his toy bug that has wheels...anything that he can turn over and spin it's wheels: he's pretty happy. Therefore, Uncle Willis' chair was pretty cool. Two giant shiny wheels that this big guy could play with anytime he wanted?!? Cohen was pretty sure it couldn't get any better than that!
Cohen, Will and Chablis playing on the floor. Will was such a good sport at letting the kids attack him. Chablis was pretty tough on him from the beginning but it took Cohen a bit to warm up. He kept sitting there watching and then looking at us as if to say, "Really? It's really okay to attack this guy? I don't know this guy? Are you sure, I mean, it looks like fun but, really?" And before long, he was right up there too, crawling all over Will and laughing like crazy.
And a picture of us...we are a part of this family too you know!!
Happy Holidays! Tune in soon for Cohen's first birthday celebration!
